How to Kiss

Katy Perry Fan Club | Beverly Hills is excited to be introducing our new K.I.S.S. ("Katy IS Sexy Style") column and yeah, this is one of our first articles and it just so happens to be about KISSING! Being a Katy Perry Fan is much more than just loving Katy's music and wardrobe, it's about livin' LARGE through appreciating and emulating Katy's SWAGG and lifestyle! Here's a few basic tips and guidelines for many of you girls who may not have yet had their first kiss. No way we're encouraging you to do any more than you OR your parents are comfortable with, but hey, a kiss can be as innocent as a handshake, depends on what ya put into it! Have fun!

Lean into the kiss and kiss back. Kissing isn't just a one-sided act and it takes two to kiss so take part in the kiss (otherwise the boy may feel like he's kissing a fish - AWKward!).
Hold him. Whether or not he shows it he will be pleased at being held (yes, a hug is as loving as anything you can do - everyone likes it!).
Remain quiet soon after the kiss has finished letting the true magic of a very first kiss sink into your heart.
Let your guy know you enjoyed the kiss with a basic sigh or a quiet wow. This will make him pleased as it will show that he kissed you in the correct way (and if he didn't, DON'T fake it, just explain how it might be improved!).
Tell him just before and right after that you enjoy him as a friend.
If this is your FIRST kiss, then this is a very special event and you should reserve it for a boy you REALLY like and know, not someone you just met at Mickey D's, lol!

Don't pressure a boy into the kiss if he isn't ready. In other words, the desire for the kiss should be from you AND from the boy, otherwise it will feel forced and uncomfortable, not good!
Don't make your guy do all the kissing. If he leans in to kiss you (and you are ready) lean in to him and kiss back.
Don't end the kiss suddenly. If you dislike it then lift up one finger and slowly pull away and explain your reasoning to your guy. Sometimes boys can be as nervous (or more nervous!) than you are, especially if it's their first kiss too!
Don't tease him about his kissing no matter how badly you feel he kisses. If you do then it will likely crush his confidence. Do not giggle and joke about it with your friends. If your guy finds out he might react to it badly. A first kiss is an individual romantic moment in any relationship, and it will likely be just as important to your boy as it is to you.
Don't set up for your first kiss after eating heavily garlic-flavored food or after running around your high school track and being covered with sweat, lol! You want to be relaxed, at ease and confident so that when the magic moment comes, both your boy and YOU see fireworks like it was the Fourth of July!

In summary, your first kiss is a very special event for every girl, we can't emphasize that enough. At Katy Perry Fan Club | Beverly Hills, we know there can be tremendous peer pressure to not be a "prude" - and kissing a boy will surely happen sooner rather than later! BUT, our advice is to WAIT and be very sure of your feelings for the boy you kiss for the first time. DON'T give in to pressure, from the boy in question or anyone else until YOU'RE READY to plant one on him!

Have fun out there, whether or not you're kissing or being kissed!

Katy Perry Fan Club | Beverly Hills is always on the lookout for great talent, and we think we've uncovered a rock duo in PINE CONE WARS that fits the bill.

Pine Cone Wars is a grunge/rock band we are excited to show off in our Club with their strong and original cover of Katy Perry's "E.T.", a No. 1 single from her "Teenage Dream" album released last August by Capitol Records. Sure, the original song featuring Kanye West is "all that" for sure, but wait until you see this video shot during a live studio recording session of Pine Cone Wars.

Look for more videos from Pine Cone Wars in the coming months, we'll have them back at KPFC|BH as a special featured artist right here for our Members.  Here's a short bio about the band, leave comments PLEASE if you like these guys!
We've traded in the L.A. club gigs for a digital tour of sorts. The experiment is Pine Cone Wars releasing one performance/creative content video on YouTube every month as well as one original single release on iTunes and other digital stores worldwide every month. We started in November 2010 and have continued until now. (As for the iTunes singles, they are on hold for this summer but will resume in the fall).
Pine Cone Wars is Aaron Graham (guitar, lead vocal) and David Boehme (drummer, bg vocals).
The duo works perfectly within our digital experiment. We have a touring bass guitarist for live shows.
We grew up in the grunge capitol of the world in Seattle, Washington and moved here to L.A. a few years ago. We have won many contests and awards. Teen People Magazine named us best unsigned band in the country a few years back after winning a national contest and battle of the bands held in New York City.
With songwriting at the forefront, Pine Cone Wars focuses on creating simply a good tune with a good sound. Style/genre is an accessory, important but not the goal. Our music is diverse from one song to the next but definitely influenced by rock n' roll.

Katy Perry Fan Club | Beverly Hills is proud to present Pine Cone Wars of Los Angeles, CA with their cover of Katy Perry's "E.T." recorded June, 2011

This insightful story from a high school senior shows the fun, and pitfalls, of organizing and playing in a rock and roll band!

Putting together a band is one of those projects that almost every teenager dreams of and talks about but rarely gets around to actually doing. That's understandable when you first think about it, and all you can see is the distant future where you are a huge star playing original songs with your pals in a crowded arena, thousands of screaming fans chanting your name from the balcony. But let's get back to reality, you  can't predict that far ahead unless you build a foundation, and that's a rather long and intense process, usually taking years and a whole lotta dedication to your music. It's not as easy as it seems to become a pro musician when we are constantly exposed to TV shows like "American Idol" and "Glee", I mean, we can't all become famous!

I started a band with one of my best friends this time last year. Well, we hadn't even really started up a band. In fact, we just went to the school's band room throughout lunch and jammed on our respective instruments for forty-five minutes each and every day. We didn't practice any real songs until school got out in June of 2010. He plays guitar, and I drum - it was just the two of us until October 2010.

In October, I heard that a freshman at our school was looking for a drummer in order to get a band together for the talent show. I told him that I would drum for him, but then we decided that he should just join up with Ricky (my guitarist) and I. We were one man shy of a band due to the fact we needed a singer. Yeah, none of us were particularly very good at singing back then. But we did catch a break when Ricky's uncle, who played with a band called "The Helter Skelters" back in the day, gave Ricky his 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard, the same model that Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin plays. OMG, talk about a lucky kid!

The talent show would be on December 12th.  From October to November, the three of us practiced two songs: "E.T." and "Firework", both by Katy Perry. I had to sing and drum all through the practice sessions due to the fact no one else knew the words or felt smart enough to try to sing them. It wasn't until December first that my friend Shak agreed to sing for us. That exact same day, Ricky and I thought up the band's temporary name, "Construction Blues" in math class, ten minutes prior to the talent show form submission deadline! However, somebody was usually missing from our practices, so when we got onstage on the night of the talent show, we really had in no way practiced as a full band. Awkward!

We did alright at the show, luckily. Shak's mic cut out a couple of times, but he still sang fairly well. The rest of us played our instruments without messing up, and we made a pretty good impression on the crowd. The only hiccup happened when one of the Marshall speakers fell over from a tall stack Ricky had set up, it almost hit him and we heard somebody yell from the audience, "Oh My God, I think he got hit!". Ricky and the Marshall speaker both survived, thank goodness!

So, overall, we really nailed down those two Katy Perry songs and still struggle to get together whenever possible. We came up with set lists that we want to play as a band but haven't gotten around to writing anything of our own yet - simply because of school and sports commitments - really sucks! As you can see, being a musician isn't all you expect it to be sometimes! Ricky  and I have been working on the band for about a year but haven't made the huge commitment that I think we need to go on tour or into the studio. Yet, we're continuing to practice and will have a lot more concerts scheduled this summer!

My point is, you need to have patience to start a band. You need to be willing to start out slow and work your way up to performing as an opening act for a big band, and with hard work maybe as the headliner!  Find the best musicians you can first, then practice like crazy, and then make up a great name for the group when you are truly ready to play in public. Oh, and if you are a teenager, do not anticipate to get paid any time soon, just ain't gonna happen!

But hey, it's fun and having fans of our band is like the coolest thing that's ever happened to me!

Santa Monica
Santa Monica Pier
Katy Perry Fan Club | Beverly Hills wants YOU to have fun during SUMMER 2011! If you're planning a trip to Southern California, the birthplace of Katy, here's our short guide to all the good stuff!

The Santa Monica "Boys of Summer" wish they all could be California Girls. The truth is, they need to ALL be southern California Girls in the minds of many living in this bucolic ocean side community . "SoCal", what the locals call Southern California, is full of glorious attractions from its gleaming white sand beaches to the magical world of Hollywood and Disneyland, among many other attractions.  Besides being the world center of movie and television production, it's also the home turf of the music industry, with hq's of the heavyweight record labels like Universal Music Group and Sony Music right here.

The Pacific Coast Highway: This may well be the world's most beautiful stretch of road extending from San Diego all the way north to San Francisco, and for ocean lovers, it undoubtedly is the most stunning drive you'll ever see. Start off in northern or central California (San Francisco is a fantastic starting place) and go south all the way down to San Diego. You'll see far more scenic coastlines and stunning seas in a number of days than most sailors see in a lifetime. But locally, if you are visiting Los Angeles a beautiful short day trip is from Santa Monica to Santa Barbara, the birthplace of your favorite Pop Idol, Katy Perry! You can also cruise up the PCH from Santa Monica to Malibu, home to Lindsay Lohan, Bob Dylan and many other movie and music stars.

The Santa Monica Pier: Boston, New York City and Panama Town have practically nothing above this pier. Pay a visit to the glorious pier after sundown, take in all the retailers and restaurants and experience the giant ferris wheel. Take pleasure in the night air and glimmering lights on the moonlit waves. Stroll the shops, hang out and people watch, or go for a extended romantic walk along the seaside shore. You will adore the Santa Monica Pier we have no doubt!

Hollywood Boulevard: Look for your favorite actor or entertainer along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it's "Stars" embedded into the sidewalk for all to enjoy. With 3 miles of stars, you will find each of your favorites from Johnny Depp to Oprah Winfrey and a thousand movie stars from the "Golden Age" of Hollywood. While you're  there, dine in legendary eateries. Have a burger at the famous Whiskey A Go Go on Sunset Boulevard,  where Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, The Doors and Jimi Hendrix, among others, played many of their first live gigs inside the intimate club. With hundreds of retailers, souvenir merchants and strip malls, you are going to uncover treasures galore. Hint: preserve time by parking in one of the parking garages. You can have your parking slip validated with practically any retailer in the neighborhood!

San Diego Zoo: They do not call it the "World Famous San Diego Zoo" for nothing. It's one of the only public zoos anywhere in which you can gaze on giant pandas, koala bears, and 90 acres of tropical plants all in one place. It can be a hilly walk, so you may want to buy a ticket for the bus ride. You won't want to miss riding the sky ride at night for an absolutely unforgettable view of San Diego's Balboa Park, Coronado Island and the San Diego Bay.

SeaWorld San Diego: "Shamu! Shamu! Shamu!"  This marine life park features killer whales, seals and a great variety of aquatic life displays as well as roller coasters. SeaWorld def has something for everyone! You can do it all!  Touch a starfish, feed a stingray, view a 3D movie, and sit in the "Soak Zone". Throughout the summer, be sure to hang out for the evening closing fireworks display for an extra thrill!

So as you can see, Southern California, one of America's most spectacular natural regions, has it all from its glistening beaches and shoreline activities to the thrills of being in the center of  Hollywood with its movie and music industries with tons of cool attractions to visit!

Katy Perry

Katy Perry Live!

Beverly Hills, California

Katy Perry secured her position as the greatest selling pop superstar with her third studio album release “Teenage Dream", which debuted at number one on Billboard’s Top 200 albums chart, selling 192,222 units throughout its initial 7 days of release. Katy is at this point one of the top 10 selling musicians in the world, with one of the biggest debuts ever and one of only 2 pop performers to be seen in this list. Katy co-wrote every one of the 12 tracks on "Teenage Dream", four of which skyrocketed to No. 1's on Billboard's Top 100 chart.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift Takes Off

Another pop idol has burst on the scene in the same time period as Katy - Taylor Swift - who also appeals to a mass teen audience but is clearly a country musician and her message and lyrics are not as charged and edgy as the Californian Katy Perry. She erupted with a runaway smash album "Fearless" in 2008, and more recently "Speak Now" in 2010 blasted off the launching pad by debuting at Number One on Billboard's Top 200, with 1,047,000 sold in its first week of release.

No doubt, Katy Perry is dominating the world of pop music at this moment, but she is not alone as a staggeringly gifted songwriter and performer, with Taylor Swift also receiving a lot of love from her fans which are comprised mainly of teenage girls, identifying with both singers' messages about youthful relationships, school life, and emerging interests in romance and "boys".  2011 will no doubt introduce new song releases from both artists that increase their stature as cultural icons to their young audiences.

Beverly Hills, California

Katy Perry (Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson) was born on October 25, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California to ultra conservative Christian parents. As the daughter of two pastors, she was encouraged as a child to sing in churches, restaurants, and at family functions to showcase her abundant talents in Christian and Gospel "New Music". At the age of fifteen, Perry left her hometown and moved to Nashville, in which she was signed by Steve Thomas and Jennifer Knapp of the Red Hill record label to release her self-titled debut album, "Katy Hudson". The album, which was launched in 2001, is a compilation of Christian songs.

When Katy was seventeen she caught the attention of Glenn Ballard, the producer for Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill". As a fan of Morissette, Katy embraced the chance to rec0rd with Ballard, who mentored the young singer for many years. In 2004, she became a member of The Matrix, recording songs with Ballard for an album that was due to be released in 2005. Though the album was never heard by the public, Katy caught the attention of Blender Magazine, who dubbed her "The Upcoming Superstar!" and Teen People, who noted that she was the "1 to View".

In addition to the raves she received in the press, Katy soon caught the eye of Jason Flom, Virgin Records CEO who was in charge of Capitol Records Group. She was signed by the label in 2007, and released her debut single "Ur So Gay", which she presented as a totally free download on her MySpace page. The subsequent release of "I Kissed a Girl" grew to become her breakthrough single, and topped the charts in 20 nations. Katy Perry had grown from a church choir singer to an international diva and pop icon in the space of just a few short years.

Few artists have ever captured the imagination, love and dedication of millions of young teenage fans with the success of Katy Perry, whose third album "Teenage Dream", released by Capitol Records in August, 2010, became a massively huge hit, producing four No. 1 singles and making her the ruling queen of Billboard's Top 100 for many months. The album features a stunning rap-pop hit duo with superstar Kanye West in "E.T.", a sci-fi fantasy about an Earth girl hooking up with an extraterrestrial in an interplanetary romance. The single "E.T." went straight to Number One on Billboard and thrilled fans worldwide, bolstered by an elaborate and other-worldly video.

Career Highlights

- She has been nominated for several awards, which includes a Grammy, an MTV Video Songs Award, and a Brit Award. In 2009, she won an NRJ Audio Award for Global Album of the Yr, and a People's Choice Award for Popular Pop Song.

Katy Perry's Exciting Details
